The winter in Bergen has been cold and very dry. The snow has layed continiously since december 19th. and this is a record length of a snow period, beating the last record from 1986-87. The effects on water temperature remains to be seen. Normally the saying is cold winter - warm summer. And perhaps the dry period with low snowdepths in the mountains gives less cold melting water from supplied to the fjords during april and may? In fact there has been so little rain and snow in the autumn and winter that they begin to talk about rationalisation, and the electricity prices mostly driven by large hydropower supplies of western Norway rises to record high levels. We'll see how things go, and keep the indoor rollers going in the dark to save electricity?
Anyway, the conditions now does not exactly invite to open water swimming, here from Bergens Seilforening (Bergen Yacht Club) harbor february 23rd.
