The fifth one out in our meet the participant series is
Yngvar Udø
"You're doing a good job in keeping the race pages alive. Many has a lot to learn of this I think. It livens up the dark winter evenings. Most pages are silent until spring time" Yngvar greets us. Yngvar has written a short summary of him self as a greeting to all fellow competitors:
My name is Yngvar Udø, and I'm 40 years old. I come from Vennesla in the south part of Norway, it's a a little village a bit in from the coast, near the city Kristianssand I attended your first event, the Bergen-Voss Triathlon back in 2008. I was unfortunately the only one that year that quit that year during running. Totally exhausted. But, therefore, I know about your ability to prepare good events. There is not that many ironman competitions to participate in Norway, but nevertheless you are under my favorites folder! In fact I visit your web pages almost daily! It was with great pleasure that I read you wanted to make this an event compact one and not A to B type, having the start, transition, and finish in the same area. And the timing is perfect too, with respect to the spring season which I spend on the bike, and not least that you arranged before the summer holiday times. I really can't find any good reason not to participate! So, I'm loking forward enormously. We are currently two from the same club here in Vennesla. Yngvar Larsen is a "wolf in bike clothes." Look out for him! This year he cycled from Kristiansand to Hovden bike race (Color Setesdal Tour) where Protour rider Thor Hushovd took place as a warm up for Tour de France. He started with the group as Thor Hushovd, and sat with the group almost to the finish after 215km. Thor Hushovd finished in 5hrs 7 minutes, he came in about ten minues later. Tour de France Mountain stage winner at Luz Ardiden in 1987, Dag Otto Lauritzen was also in that group. Also he warming up for Tour de France. As a reporter for Norwegian TV2. Yngvar is also one of the best runner in extreme, long cross country running in south Norway. So as long as he drift ashore somehow after the swimming, my guess is that Yngvar Larsen will figth towards the top poistions in Bergen come June! Earlier, I have been participating in several triathlons, among them 4 Norseman Extreme Triathlon, and sits and incubates 4 black finsiher t-shirts. And curse the'porridge-heads' (hi hi) at Norseman for not manage to fit me in this years race. A bit depressed by that. But it makes me even more motivated and and eager for Bergen Triathlon. I'll give it full focus next year, and makes it easier to focus on peaking in Bergen in top form!
In my younger days I ran orienteering, and trained a lot in running in the woods and cross country locally. I was never at Norwegian elite level, but reached a good level regionally. When I was in the military doing my national servce year that all norwegians has to, I began to lift weigths, and kept with it for 15 years. PMy PB is from 2004: 165 kg in the bench. A also had 15 body raises in a boom with 20kg weights strapped around my waist. My net weight min var105kg. I regret all the weight training like a dog today. The kilos on the upper body is not very attractive in final marathon of an ironman. But I carry in. Being in the middle of life I figure it's all still possible. Over the last year I have participated and sat new PB in the local race "Ogge Triathlon", in all disciplines. So I'm still progressing as a triathlete, and I guess this is the most inspiring thing for me to observe
(Now I've said it and written it, and I do notice my heart increased a bit when I typed this sentence ...........) - Yngvar
